Due to the passing of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the American Journal of Cultural Sociology offers Open Access to Alvaro Santana-Acuña’s article on how «One Hundred Years of Solitude» became a literary classic. The article is published in the current issue (February 2014).

In 2011, this article won the Edward Shils-James Coleman Memorial Award and received the Honorable Mention for the Richard A. Peterson Prize, both from the American Sociological Association.
